The Wabash Valley Girls Softball League Sign-ups

The Wabash Valley Girls Softball League will be holding registration January 28th from 10 am - 2 pm, February 4th from 10 am - 2 pm, February 6th from 4 pm - 8 pm, February 11th from 10 am - 2 pm. Terre Haute Police Department Applications

The Terre Haute Police Department is handing out applications for employment as a police officer. The applications will be handed out at the Terre Haute Police Department at 1211 Wabash Avenue starting February 1st thru February 29th 2012, from 8am to 4pm. A person that is interested in the profession can also go to the Terre Haute Police Departments web site http://TERREHAUTE.IN.GOV to download the application packet. The applications must be turned in by February 29th 2012 at 4pm, in person at the Police Department to SGT. Brentlinger of the Juvenile Division. To be eligible for employment, you must be 21 years of age and less than 36 years of age, have a High School Diploma or G.E.D., be a U.S. Citizen, and not been convicted of any felonies. The Terre Haute Police Department is and equal opportunity employer.

Feburary Spay-Neuter Awareness Month

Feburary is Spay-Neuter Awareness Month. To avoid unwanted litters of kittens and puppies this year, sign up for "Pets Alive"; a low cost spay-neuter program. The cost is $53.00 for dogs and $33.00 for cats plus a $12.00 annual Rabies vaccination ( if required .) BUT... For the Feburary only, the first 30 female cats will cost only $20.00 each; and the rabies vaccination will be free for all pets who are signed up to be spayed or neutered. Pet sign-ups will be held at the 14th and Chestnut Community Center from 10AM to 2PM Monday Feburary 6th and 13th, and Saturday Feburary 14th. Terre Haute North Little League Spring Baseball Sign-ups

Registration for spring baseball at Terre Haute North Little League will be held on Saturday February 25th, and Saturday March 3rd, 9:00 am - Noon.  The registration will take place inside "North Diamond Hall" at the Terre Haute North Little League ballpark at 4212 E. Park Ave. Boys or girls who are new to the ball park should bring a birth certificate to the registration.

“Give from the Heart to the Heart” Walgreens on 13th and Wabash & The American Heart Association

The Walgreens on 13th and Wabash will be hosting the “Give from the Heart to the Heart” event on Saturday, February 25th from 11am – 3pm. During this event (and the rest of February) Walgreens is giving $1 to the American Heart Association for every person who comes in and gets a Free Blood Pressure Screening. There will be a raffle on Saturday, they will have a $1 donation to win a healthy heart gift basket!

The Clark County Optimist Club of Marshall Annual Italian Night

Clark County Optimist Club of Marshall will be having their annual Italian Night on Saturday, March 10th from 4pm – 8:30pm. Tickets are available at the Old National Bank of Marshall or any Optimist Club Member, Adults - $8, Children 12 and under- $4. Proceeds go for shoes for children and other youth projects within the community.

Severe Weather Spotters' Training Class

The National Weather Service Indianapolis office, in conjucture with Illiana Skywarn, is sponsering a Severe Weather Spotters' Training Class. The class will take place on Monday, March 12th, at 7:00 P.M., EST at the Berean Baptist Church, 6770 North Clinton Street, just South of Sky King Airport.

This two-hour class is designed to train all emergency and/or law enforcement personnel, teachers, students, scout troops, as well as the public in how to properly identify and report severe weather events to the National Weather Service. These events include hail, damaging winds, funnel clouds, tornadoes and other weather phenomenon related to severe thunderstorms. This class is free and open to the public. Seating is availabe on a first come, first served basis.

The main presenter will be David Tucek, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Since 1974, Illiana Skywarn has used Amateur Radio to exchange timely severe weather related information with the National Weather Service office in Indianapolis. Amateur Radio operators work in conjuncture with the National Weather Service, through their Skywarn program, to report severe weather events as they are happening. This information is used in conjuncture with weather service radar data to issue weather warnings to protect the public.

Amateur radio operators: a talk-in will be on the 145.23 Skywarn system.
