SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - Work could begin next summer on a hiking trail that will bypass the home of Metallica singer James Hetfield. The Marin Independent Journal reports county officials have conducted an environmental review and found no significant impact in building the trail. It would connect two open space preserves, which were connected until Hetfield put up a fence in 2008. He says he wanted to keep people from hiking through his Northern California property and trashing it. The trail would open in October 2011.
