Listen to them in the morning, then after the show's over, I'll ask you a question about that day's show. I try not to make it to hard. (That's what she said.)
Here's what you can win:

4 tickets to see the West Central Wildcats semi-pro football game this Saturday at ISU Memorial Stadium
4 free tans from Larry Paul Tanning Spa

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Gimme Back My Bullets tour stopped at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute on this day in 1976. It was a tour that started in Europe in late 1975. Meanwhile, the album, Gimme Back My Bullets, had dropped in February of 1976. So, in case you were wondering, this was the pre-crash Skynyrd lineup. Only about 3300 people came out to that show, though.
To get an idea of what a Skynyrd concert sounded like back in '76, you can check out the 2006 deluxe reissue of Gimme Back My Bullets, which includes some bonus live tracks recorded during that tour. Or, simply watch this video recorded in March of 1976 in San Francisco.

Terre Haute got a taste of Hollywood Nights on this day in 1978, when Bob Seger and Sweet played the Hulman Center. Bob Seger. And Sweet? I'm having a hard time picturing Bob Seger fans appreciating a bunch of British glam rockers. That had to be a rough crowd.
(The photo is from a different stop on that 1978 tour.)
Seger was only about 3 weeks away from releasing one of his biggest albums, Stranger in Town. That was the album with "Old Time Rock and Roll," "Hollywood Nights," "Feel Like a Number," and "Still the Same." I wonder if the crowd that night dug the "new stuff." Watch Seger below, probably from '78, performing "Hollywood Nights."
Sweet, on the other hand, has been largely forgotten. And, really, by 1978 they had already been pretty much forgotten. 1978 is when they had their last hit. But, you gotta love their ...

One of the last big rock shows in Terre Haute happened on this day in 2005. John Mellencamp with special guest Donovan drew 7,644 fans to the Hulman Center.
Donovan didn't open for Mellencamp. He sort of "middled." On that tour, the "Words & Music Tour," Mellencamp would play a few songs, then Donovan would come out and play a few songs, then Mellencamp and Donovan would duet on Donovan's "Sunshine Superman," and finally Mellencamp would finish the show with another set. Pretty interesting concept.
This coming Saturday in Cleveland, Donovan will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A well-known artist usually acts as a presenter for the inductee. And who will present Donovan? John Mellencamp. Very cool.
Check out this video of the "Sunshine Superman" duet at the Hulman Center.
Did you go to this show back in 2005?

Seems like just about everybody is excited about Will Ferrell's announcement this week that Anchorman 2 is happening. I noticed, though, that the real TV anchor types seem really really excited. Makes sense. If somebody made a hilarious movie about your line of work, you'd be pretty excited about a sequel, too.
That got me thinking how stoked I would be about a WKRP in Cincinnati movie. If you're younger than, say, 40, then you may have never caught the original '80s sitcom that took place at a struggling radio station. But, if you do remember it, you'll remember all the great characters and moments. ("As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.")
I'm picturing a movie that's a total reboot of the originial series, using the same characters played by different actors. Here's my fantasy cast for a WKRP movie (click the actor's name if you're not ...

On this day in 1976, The Marshall Tucker Band hit town and played one of the biggest Hulman Center concerts ever. 11,143 fans showed up for that one. That was the largest concert attendance in Hulman Center's 2 year history, and it remains one of the all-time largest. Hell, that was a bigger crowd than freaking Elvis had in '75!
The band's fith album, Long Hard Ride, was still 3 months away from its release. That album is largely forgotten today, but I imagine that the crowd got to hear some stuff from the "new" album.
By the way, there was another concert the night before. Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. As much as that show probably sucked, can you imagine concerts two nights in a row at the Hulman Center?! And Skynyrd came in April, and Aerosmith in May!
Then on this day in 1985, Sammy Hagar and ...

On this day in 1975, Aerosmith brought their Toys in the Attic tour to the Hulman Center. What was that show like? Well, here's a recording of a 1975 show in New York City's Central Park in its entirety. And here's the opening song:
Listen to more Aerosmith at Wolfgang's Vault.
And then on this day in 1990, Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood tour sold out the Hulman Center. Here's the setlist from that tour, according to Wikipedia:
- Kickstart My Heart
- Red Hot
- Rattlesnake Shake
- Too Young To Fall In Love
- Shout At The Devil
- Live Wire
- Same Ol' Situation
- Slice Of Your Pie
- Mick Mars solo
- Tommy Lee solo
- Looks That Kill
- Smokin' In The Boys Room
- Wild Side
- Girls, Girls, Girls
- Home Sweet Home
- Dr. Feelgood
- Jailhouse Rock
By the way, Aerosmith and Motley Crue co-headlined the 2006 Route of All Evil tour which stopped at Verizon Wireless Music ...

It doesn't look like I'm as big of a Jon Bon Jovi fan as Chelsea Handler is. But, I'm still pretty disappointed in this turn of events. I mean, shouldn't he be governor of New Jersey by now?
Last night, she shredded him, and on the eve of his 50th birthday, no less! Can't say I disagree with what she says about Steven Tyler, Vince Neil, and Paul McCartney either.

Happy birthday to The Who's Roger Daltrey. 68 today.
When I was a kid, I used to watch a show for youngsters called Wonderama. Imagine the Bozo the Clown show, but with just a regular dude hosting.
Now, I don't remember this moment--it was little before my time--but I guess Roger Daltrey appeared on the show in 1975 to promote a solo album. It's a pretty weird segement. The host, Bob McAllister, interviews him in front of no one. There was usually a studio audience full of kids. And then, I'm pretty sure at about the 4:55 mark, Bob starts hitting on Daltrey. Keep watching for the microphone swinging lesson.

There's a TV commercial where a cell phone store has holiday decorations made of flashy cell phones. It's a cool looking spot, but it's obviously done with CGI. So, I'm happy to know there's a cell phone store in Vietnam that has made an actual Christmas tree out of old unsuable cell phones. 2500 cell phones, to be precise. WANT!

Take a look at the picture. (Click on the tiny magnifying glass to see a larger image.) It's the magnetic schedule that the Colts gave away at training camp in 1999. We still have it in The River's control room.
1999. It was the first training camp in Terre Haute, and the climax of the season was the first ever playoff game to be played in Indianapolis. In between, the Colts went from a 3-13 record in 1998, to a 13-3 record in 1999. That was a franchise record for most wins in a season, and led to the Colts winning the AFC East.
Most of the credit has to go to the guy pictured on that magnetic schedule. Number 18.
I had always wished the Indianapolis Colts were a better team, but I never considered myself a fan until that 1999 season. Suddenly, I was on board.
Fast forward ...
